Description. Imperial Valley lies atop a region of high geothermal energy with an estimated 2, MW of geothermal potential. Of that total, MW are currently developable, while the remaining MW would become available as the lake shrinks in size. About MW is generated by the existing power plants, ten of which are owned by CalEnergy and one by EnergySource. A 1-year sampling program was conducted to assess current chemical and physical conditions in the Salton Sea. Analyses included general physical conditions and a suite of water quality parameters, including nutrients, trophic state variables, major cations and anions, trace metals and organic compounds. Samples were collected from three locations in the main body of the lake and Cited by:

The geologist is responsible for targeting potential resources, developing conceptual models of geothermal systems, assessing permeability and the nature and distribution of subsurface rocks, providing essential information to develop quantitative reservoir models, and supporting Cited by: 2.
The Imperial Valley is located about miles southeast of Los Angeles. It is a section of a much larger geologic structure -- the Salton Trough -- which is about 1, miles in length. The structure extends from San Gorgonio Pass southeast to the Mexican border, including the Gulf of California and beyond the tip of the Baja California Peninsula.

Hunter, Christy Craig. This book, unlike others, examines the geology related to geothermal applications. Geology dictates (a) how geothermal resources can be found, (b) the nature of the geothermal resource (such as liquid- or vapor-dominated) and (c) how the resource might be developed ultimately (such as flash or binary geothermal plants).

The Project The project consists of 10 generating plants in the Salton Sea Known Geothermal Resource Area in Southern California's Imperial Valley. The plants produce electricity solely from naturally occurring geothermal steam.
Keywords: Geothermal, Cerro Prieto, Mexicali, Imperial Valley, Environmental impact ABSTRACT The Cerro Prieto Geothermal Field is located in the Valley of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. The Salton Trough rift, manifested geomorphically as the Imperial Valley in southern California and the Mexicali Valley in northern Baja California (Figure 1), possesses an abundance of natural resources.
These valleys are major areas for agriculture, game fish, and waterfowl migration and management.Book Resource Relation: Other Information: From Power from the Earth: Geothermal Energy (Bibliography), p.
